Cathy O’Neil is a data scientist, mathematician, and author of the blog mathbabe.com. She is also the author of the book Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy. She has taught at Barnard College, worked at the hedge fund D. E. Shaw, and worked as a data scientist in various other private-sector ventures. She founded the Lede Program in Data Journalism at Columbia University and appears regularly on the Slate Money podcast.
O’Neil holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Harvard University.
